Bush Walks

Walk to Cleopatra Falls There are lots of walks around the Nelson region.

The Centre of New Zealand - a short walk up a hill close to the city centre and reachable from the Botanic Garden (where the first game of Rugby was played in New Zealand). Good view from the top and an interesting walk through exotic and native vegetation to get to the Trigonometrical Point and Marker at the top.

You are simply spoilt for choice...

  • Take a stroll in the Botanics √ the site of NZ's first rugby match
  • Explore the Maitai Cave
  • Take on the Ridgeway Hills
  • Discover the Railway Reserve
  • See history recorded in the Marsden Valley Cemetery
  • Walk around Kaiteriteri's beaches and bays
  • Explore the 'marble mountain', Takaka Hill
  • Check out the guided walks operating within the region
  • For more detailed information on walks, including online maps and walking times, check out the Nelson City Council website. More walks are also featured online at Tasman District Council For information on DOC walkways in the Nelson region check out.
